Clicking or slow cranking
Battery condition, terminals, cables, grounds and starter operation may need testing. A click alone does not prove that the starter motor has failed.
Find the fault before choosing the part
Does your car fail to start, or does the battery keep going flat? Our Al Quoz workshop investigates starting, charging, wiring and electrical-function problems. We explain the checks and repair options before you approve the work.
Tell us what stopped working, when it happens and whether the car can be driven safely.
Describe the behavior, not just a suspected part
Several faults can produce the same symptom. Useful details help the auto electrician choose the first checks and avoid unnecessary replacement.
Battery condition, terminals, cables, grounds and starter operation may need testing. A click alone does not prove that the starter motor has failed.
Battery capacity, charging performance, driving pattern and excess parked current draw are different possibilities. Mention dashcams, trackers or recent accessory installation.
The charging system, belt drive where applicable, connections and electrical supply need assessment. Replacing the battery alone may leave the cause unresolved.
Check the affected circuit, switch, fuse, wiring and component. A failed function does not automatically require a new motor or control module.
Different charges for testing and repairs
A minor connection fault and a damaged wiring harness require very different work. These estimates help you plan; inspection establishes the actual repair.
| Work and included items | Planning estimate |
|---|---|
| Initial targeted electrical testingAgreed checks for the reported fault; may include a relevant scan and circuit measurements. | AED 150–350Agreed initial checks |
| Minor connection or wiring repairAn accessible, localized fault after it has been identified. | AED 150–600Typical local repair |
| Starter or alternator repair or replacementCommon vehicle applications, with unit condition, part choice and access confirmed first. | AED 500–1,800Per affected unit |
| Intermittent drain, module or harness workExtended testing, hard-to-access wiring or vehicle-specific electronic requirements. | Staged quoteApprove further work first |
Indicative estimates before 5% VAT. Repair ranges include ordinary labor and parts for the stated work; diagnostic charges are separate unless included in your quote. Premium units, coding, extensive access or harness replacement can cost more. Confirm the final VAT-inclusive total and applicable warranty before approval.
Test the circuit in the right conditions
Describe whether it happens hot, cold, after rain or after the car is parked. Share warning photos and the details of recent repairs.
Inspect the battery supply, relevant fuses, connectors and earth connections. A voltage-drop test checks for an unwanted loss of voltage along a cable or connection while the circuit is working. This can reveal resistance that a visual inspection misses and helps separate a wiring fault from a failed starter or alternator.
Scan information and circuit measurements help narrow the cause. For battery drain while parked, the car must first complete its shutdown routines. Opening a door or bringing a keyless-entry fob close can wake systems again. Intermittent wake-ups may need longer monitoring; one current reading immediately after switch-off does not establish an excessive drain.
Discuss the findings and options before work. Recheck the affected function afterward and explain any remaining intermittent condition or further test needed.
Choose a repair that matches the fault
The lowest part price is only useful if it addresses the cause. Ask what the tests show and what is included in each option.
A damaged wire or connector may be repairable without replacing the whole harness. The repair must suit the circuit and be protected from heat, moisture and movement. More extensive damage may require a replacement connector or harness section rather than another local patch.
Repair, a suitable remanufactured unit or a new replacement may be considered where appropriate. Compare availability, part specification, labor and warranty rather than treating every unit as interchangeable.
Check the power supply, earth connection and communication wiring before recommending a replacement module. Replacement may require vehicle-specific coding or setup, which should appear in the quote.
A scan is a starting point
A weak electrical supply can produce several symptoms, but it is not a reason to dismiss every warning as a battery problem. Each relevant fault needs interpretation in context.
If testing confirms that the battery itself has failed, choosing and fitting the correct replacement addresses that fault. A battery that repeatedly goes flat still needs its charging performance and parked current draw assessed where relevant.
For a general warning-light investigation, see car computer diagnostics. If the complaint is specifically poor cooling, AC repair may require both electrical and refrigerant-system checks.
My Car Repair Dubai
Our independent workshop is at 39, Al Quoz Industrial Area 4, Dubai. My Car Repair Dubai is operated by AMF AUTO SERVICES LLC.
Ask about the free initial inspection and the agreed charge for detailed electrical testing. A drain or intermittent fault may need a longer visit or overnight observation. Confirm availability and timing before bringing the car.
If the car will not start or cannot be driven safely, call to discuss transport. Pickup and drop off depend on location, availability and the charges agreed with you.
Understand the next step
No. Battery condition, usage, charging performance, connections and parked current draw can all affect the result. Test the relevant system before choosing a replacement part.
A new battery does not resolve a charging fault, an excessive parked drain or an unsuitable battery specification. Explain how long the car stands and any recently installed accessories so the testing can be targeted.
Some straightforward repairs may be completed in one visit when parts are available. Intermittent faults, sleep-state tests, coding or access work can take longer. Confirm timing after the first assessment.
Sometimes a fuse replacement restores operation, but repeated failure needs the cause investigated. Never bridge the fuse or fit a higher rating to keep the circuit running.
It depends on the agreed quote. Confirm the initial testing charge, what it covers and whether any credit applies if you proceed with repair. Extended testing should be approved separately.
Do not use disconnection as a repair. It can remove useful diagnostic information and may require vehicle-specific procedures afterward. Record the warning and have the cause assessed.
