Gearbox oil change cost in Dubai

A basic drain and refill costs less than a service that also needs a filter or complete oil pan. Your gearbox, fluid quantity and parts determine the quotation.

Service and inclusionsPlanning estimate
Manual gearbox drain and refillSpecified fluid and ordinary service labour for an accessible gearbox.AED 200–500
Automatic transmission drain and refillSpecified ATF and ordinary labour. A replacement pan or filter kit is quoted separately.AED 350–800
CVT or wet dual clutch fluid serviceApplication-specific fluid and ordinary labour. Confirm filter access and any separate circuits.AED 500–1,200
Automatic fluid service with pan or filter kitTypical combined fluid, compatible service kit and fitting. Exact gearbox and parts choice determine the price.AED 900–1,800

Choose the method for the transmission

Drain and refill or a fluid exchange?

The amount of fluid needed depends partly on how it is changed. Your gearbox’s procedure, condition and service history determine whether a drain and refill or an exchange is appropriate.

Routine fluid renewal

Drain and refill

The accessible fluid is drained and the gearbox refilled using its specified procedure. Where required and serviceable, the filter, pan gasket or integrated filter pan is replaced.

A normal drain may leave fluid in the torque converter, cooler or other passages. The amount needed for a refill can therefore be less than the gearbox’s total capacity when empty.

More fluid, a different method

Fluid exchange

An exchange replaces a greater proportion of the old fluid through an appropriate procedure. Suitability depends on the transmission and the manufacturer’s guidance.

The method and fluid quantity are agreed before work begins. Extra cleaning chemicals are not a routine requirement, and the transmission manufacturer’s restrictions on additives or cleaning agents must be followed.

A fluid service cannot rebuild worn partsSlipping, harsh engagement, metal contamination or a warning needs assessment before servicing. Fresh fluid cannot rebuild a worn torque converter or repair damaged parts in a valve body or mechatronic control unit. Leaking cooler lines also need separate attention. Our gearbox and transmission repair service covers diagnosis and repair options when a shifting fault is the reason for your visit.

Specification comes before brand or colour

Fluid, filters and service parts

The correct fluid approval
Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) lubricates moving parts. In a conventional automatic, it also carries the hydraulic pressure used to change gear, and its friction properties affect clutch engagement. CVT, dual-clutch and manual gearboxes have their own requirements, so the fitted unit determines the fluid and quantity.
A filter or complete pan
Some units use a separate service filter; others need an integrated pan/filter assembly. When the pan is removed, its magnets and collected debris help identify whether the gearbox needs further investigation.
Seals, plugs and fasteners
The required kit may include a pan gasket, sealing rings, drain or filler plug seals and replacement bolts. The transmission’s instructions determine which parts are renewed, so a fluid-only price does not automatically include them.

Use the schedule for your car

When should gearbox oil be changed?

Choosing the right fluid is only part of the decision. When to replace it depends on the vehicle’s maintenance schedule and the fitted gearbox; there is no single mileage interval for every transmission.

Known service history

Compare the last invoice, current mileage and elapsed time with your car’s schedule. Mention towing, repeated heavy loads or other conditions that the manufacturer treats as severe use.

Unknown or overdue history

Arrange an assessment before choosing a method. A high mileage reading alone does not establish whether an exchange is suitable or whether the gearbox already has an internal fault.

A sealed or lifetime fill gearbox

Check what those terms mean for your model. A lifetime-fill description can still have conditions attached to it, so the vehicle and transmission guidance must be read together.

Dubai heat and regular traffic

High operating temperatures can age transmission fluid faster. Whether your car needs a shorter interval depends on its manufacturer’s guidance and how it is driven, so describe your usual use when booking.

Engine oil and gearbox oil are separate servicesA routine engine oil and filter change does not normally include transmission fluid. You can arrange both at the same visit when they are due, with each service priced separately.

Identify the fitted transmission

Different gearboxes, different service needs

Manual gearbox
Use the specified gear oil or transmission fluid. A manual gearbox does not automatically use the same lubricant as the differential.
Conventional automatic
A six-speed or eight-speed description alone does not identify the correct ATF. The exact gearbox determines its approved fluid, refill quantity and filter arrangement, which is why the vehicle details matter when requesting an estimate.
CVT
A continuously variable transmission needs fluid meeting its own specification. Ordinary automatic-transmission fluid is not a general substitute.
DSG and other dual-clutch gearboxes
Wet-clutch and dry-clutch units have different lubrication and service arrangements, sometimes with separate oil circuits. A dry clutch does not mean there is no gearbox lubricant.

Before and after collection

Checks and care after servicing

Final level and leak checks

Too little or too much fluid can cause damage. The final level therefore follows the gearbox’s own procedure, including fluid temperature and gear-selection steps where specified. We then check for leaks and assess operation; a road test depends on the car’s condition and the work performed.

A record for next time

Keep the fluid specification, litres supplied, filter or pan details and service mileage on your invoice. Any reset or relearn follows the relevant instructions; it is not automatically required after every fluid change.

If something changes

Contact the workshop promptly if you notice fresh fluid under the car, a new warning or changed shifting after collection. Do not keep driving to see whether severe slipping or loss of drive clears.

Useful answers before booking

Gearbox oil change questions

How long does a gearbox oil change take?

An accessible drain and refill can often be completed during a workshop visit. Replacing a pan or filter, reaching less accessible parts or waiting for the fluid to reach its checking temperature can take longer. Parts availability also affects collection. We confirm the expected time after identifying your vehicle and the work required.

Does every gearbox oil change include a new filter?

No. Filter design and service access vary. Some filters are separate, some are part of the pan, and some are not a normal external service item. The quote should state whether a filter or pan is required and included.

Can I use a universal transmission fluid?

Use the exact specification required for the fitted transmission. A genuine manufacturer-branded oil or another product with the required documented approval may be suitable. “Universal,” colour or viscosity alone does not establish compatibility.

Will new gearbox oil fix jerky shifting?

Not necessarily. Fresh fluid may address a maintenance need, but jerky shifting can also come from wear, hydraulic pressure problems or electrical and control faults. Describe when it happens so the workshop can advise whether diagnosis is needed before a fluid service.

Is gearbox oil the same as differential oil?

Not necessarily. The transmission, differential and transfer case can be separate service items with different fluids and capacities. Some layouts combine components. The correct vehicle information determines which items are included in your quote.

Should a gearbox leak just be topped up?

The fluid level and leak source need assessment. Topping up does not repair a leak, and the wrong fluid or filling method can cause problems. Stop safely and seek advice if there is a major leak, loss of drive, severe slipping or an overheating warning.
