Heavy at parking speeds
Tell us whether it happens all the time, only when cold or after driving. Assistance, electrical supply and mechanical resistance may need checking.
Hydraulic & electric steering · Al Quoz
Heavy steering, a warning light or a knock when you turn? Find out what is wrong before replacing an expensive rack or pump.
My Car Repair Dubai finds the cause, explains the repair options and agrees the price before work. Tie-rod replacement is estimated from AED 350; suitable rack repair or remanufactured replacement starts around AED 1,900. Prices include 5% VAT.

Describe what happens, and when
The same symptom can have different causes. These clues help us choose the checks; they do not identify a failed part by themselves.
Tell us whether it happens all the time, only when cold or after driving. Assistance, electrical supply and mechanical resistance may need checking.
On hydraulic systems, we inspect the fluid condition, leak source, hoses and pump operation. Repeated top-ups do not repair a leak.
The rack, tie rods, joints, mounting points and suspension may be involved. Severe play or unpredictable steering needs prompt attention.
Save a photo of the message when parked. Diagnosis may involve fault codes, voltage, wiring, sensors and the assistance unit.
Tires, wheel balance or damage can also cause steering-wheel vibration. Note the speed and whether it changes under braking.
We check tire condition, pressure, steering and suspension before recommending alignment. Mention any recent curb impact or repair.
From a check to major repair
Car model and system type make a large difference. These estimates help you plan; the inspection determines which work is actually needed.
Inspection and initial electrical or hydraulic checks. Extended testing is agreed separately.
Specified fluid and service labor for systems that use it. Leak repair is separate.
One suitable new tie-rod end, fitting and standard wheel alignment.
A suitable replacement hose, fitting, required fluid and leak checks.
A suitable new aftermarket pump, fitting, fluid and function checks on common cars.
A serviceable repair or suitable remanufactured rack, fitting, required fluid and standard alignment.
A suitable new rack, fitting and standard alignment. Genuine and premium EPS assemblies can cost more.
Model-specific steering-angle or EPS setup where required and not already included.
Estimates cover common vehicles and the work described. Model-specific programming, inaccessible or damaged fixings, extra worn components and premium parts can change the total. We itemize any required extras before work. A steering symptom alone is not a reason to replace the rack.
Different systems need different checks
You do not need to identify the system yourself. Send the make, model and year so we can discuss the correct inspection.
A hydraulic system uses fluid pressure to assist steering. A leak, hose problem, pump issue or internal rack fault can affect how it operates.
Electro-hydraulic steering also uses fluid, with an electrically driven pump. When a hydraulic pump or rack is replaced, contamination in the fluid and connected pipes needs attention so it does not damage the replacement. Cleaning, refilling and bleeding follow the vehicle and component instructions; topping up alone does not complete that repair.
Pure EPS uses an electric motor for assistance and has no power-steering fluid to top up. The motor can be fitted to the column or steering gear, depending on the design. A loss of assistance therefore needs checks of the fitted unit and its power supply, not an automatic rack replacement.
A warning light alone does not prove the complete rack needs replacement.

Understand the fault before the bill
We start with the symptoms, warning messages and repair history. The inspection then follows the car’s steering design and what the checks reveal.
When it happens, what changed and whether the car can be moved safely.
Check the steering linkage, rack mountings and column connections for wear or damage. Hydraulic pressure checks or electrical tests are selected for the fitted assistance system; a warning code alone is not a reason to replace the rack.
Separate the confirmed fault from related wear and any additional checks still required.
Discuss the repair, parts choices, labor, setup and expected time before approval.
Before a major parts bill
Send the written finding or estimate if you have it. We can explain which repairs it recommends and arrange our own assessment before you commit to an expensive replacement.
We check whether the fault is in the rack itself or in a related hose, tie rod, power supply or mounting. Where replacement is needed, we compare suitable new and remanufactured options.
Initial diagnosis: AED 200–350 including VAT. Further testing is agreed first. If steering control is affected, call to arrange recovery.
Choose from the suitable options
The answer depends on the fault, the condition of the unit and the vehicle manufacturer’s repair requirements.
A confirmed hose, tie-rod, mounting or electrical-supply issue may be addressed without replacing the entire rack. Related wear is explained separately.
Where appropriate, we compare a remanufactured unit with a new part, including compatibility, supplier test information and warranty. We confirm suitability for your vehicle before recommending it.
May be needed for damage, excessive wear or a unit that is not serviceable under the applicable repair procedure. We match the part number and arrange the required programming or calibration.
After work that changes steering geometry, wheel alignment restores the specified wheel angles. A steering-angle reset tells the relevant electronics where straight ahead is; it is a separate, model-dependent step, not a substitute for alignment. Required EPS setup and checks of assistance, leaks and the original complaint complete the repair.

A sudden change can affect control. Slow down carefully, stop somewhere safe and call for help. If steering assistance is lost or control is uncertain, arrange recovery rather than driving to the workshop.
No. Electrical supply, wiring, sensors, control faults or mechanical problems can be involved. Diagnosis is needed before deciding whether repair or replacement is appropriate.
Suitable rack repair or remanufactured replacement is estimated at AED 1,900–4,500 or more. A new rack replacement is around AED 3,000–7,500 or more. These common-vehicle estimates include fitting, standard alignment and 5% VAT; required fluid is included on hydraulic jobs. Premium EPS units or additional programming can cost more and are quoted before work.
No. A top-up does not repair the leak or establish that the car is safe to drive. The source needs inspection and the correct repair. Pure electric power steering does not use hydraulic steering fluid.
Brakes, wheels, tires, steering or suspension can contribute. The pattern of vibration helps guide the checks, but it does not prove a rack fault. Tell us the speed and whether the shaking happens without braking too.
Work affecting steering geometry, such as relevant tie-rod or rack replacement, generally needs alignment checked and adjusted as specified. Some vehicles also need steering-angle or EPS calibration. We identify the required setup in your repair quote.
Follow your vehicle’s service information and the condition of its hydraulic system. There is no single interval for every car. Pure EPS has no steering-fluid service; electro-hydraulic systems do use fluid.
A recording made safely while parked can help explain the concern, but it cannot confirm the failed part. Describe when the noise happens and arrange an inspection. Do not record or test steering while driving to demonstrate a fault.
