Plan your budget

A guide to Volvo repair costs

These are My Car Repair Dubai’s published general workshop estimates, including 5% VAT. They give a budget reference for the jobs below, they are not fixed Volvo prices. Your quotation depends on the fitted parts, oil approval and repair required.

The initial visual assessment is free. Computer scanning and agreed diagnostic testing cost AED 150–350 including 5% VAT. A diagnostic fee is separate from the repair total.

Job and unitGuide, incl. VATWhat the estimate covers
Oil and filter service
Per car, 6–8 litres or an oil with a specific approval
AED 350–600Specified oil, filter, labour and final checks. Smaller fills may cost less, the Volvo engine’s actual capacity and approval determine the quote.
Premium brake pads
One axle
AED 300–1,500One pad set and fitting. Sensor or additional hardware is itemised separately where needed.
Brake pads and discs
One axle
AED 650–2,500Two discs, one pad set and fitting with quality aftermarket parts. Genuine parts or larger brake assemblies can cost more.
ABS wheel-speed sensor
One confirmed faulty sensor
AED 350–1,200Sensor, fitting and fault verification. Wiring, wheel-bearing work and an ABS module are separate repairs.
Timing belt or chain work
One applicable engine timing job
AED 1,450–4,400The applicable kit, tensioners or guides, fitting and timing. Engine design, access and additional damaged parts can change the total.
Published multi-brand estimates, not a Volvo tariff. Parts choice and vehicle compatibility are confirmed in the written quotation.

For an air-suspension fault, gearbox repair or hybrid concern, send the model, year, mileage and dashboard message. Those jobs need an individual estimate, a basic servicing price would not describe the likely work.

Routine maintenance

Plan your Volvo service

Use the handbook schedule and service history to decide what is due. A worn component or a running fault can need a separate repair, even when the car is booked for servicing.

Engine inspection helps identify leaks and maintenance needs.

What belongs in your service

  1. Oil and filter

The engine determines the oil approval, fill quantity and filter. “0W-20” alone does not establish the required Volvo approval.

  2. Items due under the schedule

Air and cabin filters, spark plugs or diesel fuel-filter work are selected when due. A timing belt is replaced only where fitted and due.

  3. Condition checks

Visible leaks, fluid condition, brake wear and tyres help separate immediate work from items to watch.

Our oil and filter service explains the work and price basis. For an example of engine-specific approvals and quantities, see Volvo’s 2017 XC60 oil table.

When the drive changes

Engine faults and cooling problems

We investigate running faults, oil and coolant leaks, lubrication concerns and lost power. The fault determines whether the car needs a component repair or deeper engine work.

What has changed?

Open the symptom closest to what you notice. These are possible repair areas, not a diagnosis of your car.

Rough idle or misfiring

Ignition coils, spark plugs, injectors, intake leaks and crankcase ventilation can affect running. Fault codes, operating data and physical checks help distinguish the failed part from the reason it is behaving incorrectly.

Coolant loss or rising temperature

A hose, radiator, thermostat or pump may need attention. The leak or circulation problem determines the repair. Repeated topping up leaves that problem unresolved.

Oil leaks or persistent oil consumption

A leak can involve a seal or cover. Persistent consumption or low oil pressure needs further investigation before deciding on internal engine repair. A rebuild and a replacement assembly are different jobs with different costs.

Less power under acceleration

On a turbocharged engine, intake leaks, boost control and lubrication can affect performance. Describe whether the change starts when cold, in traffic or under acceleration so the investigation follows the symptom.

Our engine repair service explains the difference between a local repair, a rebuild and an engine assembly.

Overheating or an oil-pressure warning?

Stop safely if the car overheats, displays an oil-pressure warning or tells you to stop driving. Call for advice before continuing.

Identify the fitted system

Gearboxes and all-wheel drive

A delayed engagement or harsh shift does not automatically mean the complete gearbox has failed. The transmission type and driving conditions help establish the repair needed.

Conventional automatic

Geartronic

Fluid service
Match the fluid specification and service procedure to the fitted gearbox.
Repair checks
Leaks, controls, valve-body faults and internal wear need different repairs.
Dual clutch on some earlier models

Older Powershift

Fluid service
Use the procedure for this unit. A Geartronic fluid service is not interchangeable.
Repair checks
Assess clutch operation and shift behaviour before choosing the repair.
Fluid change or repair?

A fluid change cannot repair damaged gearbox parts. Tell us about delayed engagement, harsh shifts and any previous fluid work.

All-wheel drive

Choose the AWD system

The fitted drivetrain changes the repair. Select the system to see what to discuss when booking.

Mechanical driveline

Repair focus
Identify the fitted mechanical drive system when investigating vibration, noise or loss of drive.
What to tell us
Describe when the noise or vibration starts and share any AWD warning shown on the dashboard.

Electric rear drive

Repair focus
T8 applications can use an electric rear axle alongside the petrol engine. Drive faults need the exact powertrain identified.
What to tell us
Send the model, year and exact dashboard message. Mention whether the concern occurs on electric power, petrol power or both.

Specialist repair availability, electrical drive work and manufacturer-dependent software functions are confirmed for the fitted system before booking.

Control and ride comfort

Brakes, suspension and steering

Brake wear, a knock over bumps or uneven tyre wear each calls for different work. Match the repair to the component and the suspension equipment on the car.

Choose the brake work by condition

Pads and discs
Pad wear and disc condition determine whether pads alone are suitable or an axle needs pads and discs.
Calipers and brake behaviour
A pull or vibration under braking can need investigation beyond a pad replacement.
Electronic parking brake
Rear-brake work follows its service procedure where fitted. Hybrids and EVs still have physical brakes alongside regeneration.

Compare fitted axle quantities in our brake repair price guide.

Which suspension is fitted?

A low corner on an air-suspended car needs a different repair from a worn damper on a spring-suspended car.

Conventional suspension

  • Bushes, arms and links can cause knocks.
  • Dampers and springs are assessed for wear or damage.

Air suspension where fitted

  • Air springs and the air supply need inspection.
  • Control faults can affect the vehicle’s height.

Finish with the supporting checks

  • Steering play and wheel-bearing condition
  • Tyre damage, size, load and speed rating
  • Tyre-pressure warnings
  • Alignment after worn or damaged components are repaired
Starting and cabin comfort

Electrical faults and air conditioning

Choose the concern that describes the visit. A car that struggles to start, one that will not charge and one with warm cabin air need different investigations.

Starting concern

Slow start or a flat battery

  • Battery conditionEstablish whether the 12V battery can perform its job.
  • Charging and parked drainA recurring flat battery may need more than replacement.
  • Correct installationMatch the replacement specification and any required setup.
Cabin concern

Warm air or weak airflow

  • AirflowCabin filter, blower and air distribution.
  • CoolingRefrigerant leakage, compressor operation and controls.
  • Correct refrigerant chargeUse the car’s specification and address confirmed leaks.

Three different battery systems

Identify the powertrain when booking. Some mild hybrids have both 12V and 48V equipment, while plug-in hybrids and electric cars also have a traction battery.

12V
Starting and low-voltage electrical equipment
48V
Support system on applicable mild hybrids
High voltage
Traction battery, electric drive and applicable AC equipment

High-voltage battery-pack, inverter, charging and compressor work requires vehicle-specific capability confirmation before booking. See Volvo’s 12V and 48V battery guidance.

The workshop uses AUTEL or other car-specific diagnostic equipment alongside physical tests. Keys, module replacement, software downloads and protected functions can require additional manufacturer access, which is confirmed for the car.

Restore the finish

Bodywork, glass and interior repairs

Choose a local repair, replacement or wider restoration according to the damage. Photographs help with an initial estimate for visible body and interior work.

Exterior finish

Panels and paint

  • Bumper and panel damage
  • Paint repairs and finish care
  • Sensor, camera or radar checks where the damage affects them

Send a wider photograph and a close-up of the damaged area.

Glass and visibility

Windscreens

  • Glass suited to the fitted features
  • Camera mounts, heating or head-up display where applicable
  • Required function checks and calibration availability

Ask whether the necessary checks are included before booking replacement.

Cabin finish

Seats and trim

  • Worn seat panels and damaged door trim
  • Sagging headliners and wider retrims
  • Seat heating, airbags and electronics considered during the work

Compare materials and prices in our seat and upholstery repair options.

Insurance or detailing enquiry?

For insurance work, share the insurer’s requirements and available accident documents. The insurer determines cover, excess and authorisation. For cleaning or finish care, enquire about detailing.

Make the visit practical

Parts choices and workshop time

Genuine, suitable OEM-equivalent and aftermarket options may be available. Compare the supplied part and complete fitted work, then plan the visit around availability.

Compare the available parts

OptionWhat to establish
GenuineThe supplied Volvo part and its compatibility with the vehicle.
OEM-equivalentThe named manufacturer, specification and suitable application.
AftermarketThe brand, compatibility and suitability for the repair.

The quotation identifies labour, fluids and any fitting or programming requirement. For a major assembly, ask about its condition and the warranty terms for the supplied parts and work.

Before collection

Completion time is agreed once the job and parts availability are known. We recheck the agreed repair and explain the work completed and any remaining attention needed.

Before you book

Questions from Volvo owners

Start with the model, year, mileage and a short description of the problem. A dashboard photograph helps preserve the exact wording of a warning.

Are you an authorised Volvo dealership?

No. My Car Repair Dubai is an independent multi-brand garage in Al Quoz. We do not present our repairs as manufacturer-authorised work. For a recall, manufacturer warranty claim or restricted software function, ask the Volvo retailer what applies to your vehicle.

How often should I service my Volvo?

Use the schedule for the car’s model year, engine and market, together with its service history and reminders. There is no single mileage interval for every Volvo on this page. Tell us the last service date and mileage so the visit can be planned around what is due.

Can you give a repair price from a photograph?

Photographs help with an initial body or interior estimate. They cannot establish a hidden engine, transmission or electrical fault. Share the symptoms and vehicle details first, the written repair estimate follows the assessment needed for that job.

Can I bring my Volvo for a pre-purchase inspection?

Yes, enquire about a pre-purchase inspection before committing to a used car. Share its model, year, mileage and location. Ask what checks are included for its powertrain, especially for a hybrid or electric vehicle, and whether specialist battery assessment is available.

Where is the workshop?

My Car Repair Dubai is at 39, Al Quoz Industrial Area 4, Dubai. Call 050 608 7150 to arrange a visit or discuss pickup availability. Tell us first if the car is not drivable so suitable transport can be discussed.
